Katie Hughes, LCSW, LLC
Providing support for new and expectant mothers and their families.
I provide individual, couples, and group therapy with a specialization in perinatal mental health (i.e. depression, anxiety, and other concerns women and/or their partners may experience during pregnancy or the postpartum period). I understand that seeking out support can feel overwhelming and I am committed to providing a safe and compassionate environment where we can explore your concerns and begin to work toward change. Call me to further discuss your needs or to schedule an initial evaluation.
About Me
I am a psychotherapist (Licenses Clinical Social Worker in the Commonwealth of Virginia) with years of experience providing therapy to adults. I have worked in a variety of settings, such as university counseling centers, VA hospitals, community mental health agencies, and school settings. In addition to providing therapy, I have held various positions throughout my career. I have coordinated group therapy services for an agency, provided outreach and education on topics related to mental health and wellness, and supervised graduate students. I love the work that I do every day and I feel honored to sit with individuals during some of the most difficult and transformative times in their lives. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, performing in local community music groups, being outside, cooking, reading, and enjoying a great cup of coffee.
I take an integrative approach to practicing therapy. This means I draw on a variety of interventions and tailor my work to meet the unique needs of each client. I will always provide a space to focus on immediate needs and enhance your current coping skills. I may also explore current and past relationships and experiences to better understanding how these may be continuing to impact the patterns in your life. I also believe it is important to look at the whole person and to understand how the many facets of your situation and identity may be impacting your concerns. Throughout treatment I will check in with you to make sure your needs are being met. I believe it is essential that we have a strong therapeutic relationship so that you feel safe and comfortable discussing your concerns and working toward change.
I have additional specialized training in group therapy and perinatal mental health.
